Soosiyam 


Ingredients:

Gram dhal 1 ½ cup
Coconut grated 1 ½ cup
Jaggery 1 ½ cup
Cardamom powder ½ teaspoons
Plain flour 3 cups
Coconut milk 3 cups
Baking powder 2 pinches
Salt to taste

Method:

Powder the jaggery or scrape it to form a powder.

Boil the gram dhal in water until soft.

Drain the water and add coconut, jaggery powder and cardamom powder.

Mix well and cook until all the moisture has evaporated and the mixture is dry.

Grind this mixture and make lime sized balls. Set aside.

Mix the plain flour, coconut milk, baking powder and salt to make the batter which should not be too runny and not too thick.

Dip gram balls in this batter.

Remove and deep fry in hot oil until golden.

Remove and drain oil.
